Perception Quartet Talks: Abraham Olivier

In his lecture “Why African Phenomenology” on 5 December 2025, Abraham Olivier presented phenomenology as an emerging field within African philosophy. Olivier discussed some of the key issues and approaches within contemporary African phenomenology, particularly in comparison with Western phenomenology. The aim of this introduction was to highlight how the African context presents challenges that lead to differences in the practice of phenomenology, and why these differences are significant.
