How applicable are care theories?
Thursday 17.10.2024-Friday 18.10.2024
The lecture by Florence Borggrefe (Zurich University of the Arts and Visiting Scholar at CIRAC) and the interdisciplinary pre- and post-doc workshop focussed on the discourse field of care theories.
After an initial presentation by Prof. Ulla Kriebernegg, Florence Borggrefe explained the current challenges and potentials surrounding an "ethics of care" and outlined considerations for the further development of this field of research. The lecture thus provided a valuable introduction to the discussions in the workshop on the following day.
This began with an introduction by FD Prof. Sonja Rinofner, who presented both fundamental considerations on this term and the research contexts of this field of discourse at the University of Graz. After an online impulse by Prof. Helen Kohlen, who gave an overview of the theoretical history of the concept of care, the participants were able to discuss personal and disciplinary perspectives.
The workshop and lecture were held in cooperation with the Centre for Interdisciplinary Research on Ageing and Care (CIRAC) and the focus area "Perception: Episteme, Aesthetics, Politics" of the Faculty of Humanities and the "Aging, Demography & Care" cluster in the "Heterogeneity and Cohesion" research network at the University of Graz, the research focus area Aesthetics at Zurich University of the Arts and the Institute for Theatre, Film and Media Studies at the University of Vienna.
