Abstract: African Phenomenology is an emerging field within the broader domain of African and Africana philosophy. Despite its long history, the term “African phenomenology” is not widely used. I aim to introduce some of the central problems, theorists, and approaches of African phenomenology compared to Africana and Western phenomenology. With this introduction, I hope to show how the African context poses challenges that give rise to a difference in practicing phenomenology and why this difference matters.
